"Relocated to CA for work from the East Coast. Had only 1 dentist before Dr. Calleros back in my home town and he is amazing! Very hesitant to get another dentist - I actually got my cleanings whenever I returned home! However, I haven't been back in over a year and I'm not planning to return anytime soon, so a friend recommended Dr. Calleros.
I went in and indeed her office is brand new and very modern, both the decor and the equipment, which is a plus in my book. First time visitors meet with her and she takes all kinds of photographs and x-rays and goes over any issues that she sees. She immediately saw some cavities that needed fillings right away, and some other potential areas that were developing but could be delayed. But she recommended getting them all done right away since they were very close and I'd be numb anyways. Had a cleaning and then scheduled the fillings for the following week.
My cavities were spread across upper and lower teeth, both left and right sides. 8 total fillings - she did them all in about 75 minutes. No pain at all - topical anasthetic to numb the needle going in, and the novacaine did the rest. I will say that the dental drills themselves have an incredibly annoying sound that scare the bejesus out of me. And the vibrations - dear god can't somebody invent something better already?!?!?! But I was numb and didn't feel a thing. In fact, I was numb for another 2 hours after the work was finished, which is fine with me because I'd rather be numb for an extra hour or two than have it run out or not be numb at all.
Out of pocket cost for 8 fillings and a cleaning - ~$230. Total cost was around $900. Does she charge more than what the insurance will cover? Probably, but I'm fine with that. Insurance companies think that doctors and dentists are commodities, and that the services they provide are all equal. In their eyes, a cavity filling is the same regardless of who does the work. I however, do not believe that. Some dentists are obviously much more skilled than others, just like some doctors are better than others, and some auto shops are better than others, and some home contractors are better than others. We live in a capitalist society and I firmly believe you get what you pay for. For me, I'd rather pay a few dollars out of pocket and get a better than average dentist, and I believe Dr. Calleros is way above average. So I have no problem paying a few extra dollars for her service. It worked out to about $30 per cavity with a free cleaning thrown in. And most importantly - zero pain during the drilling and the reassurance that I'm in good hands and don't need to return to New Hampshire for a regular checkup!"

I am most thankful that over the past 20 years I have never really needed anything more than my regularly scheduled dental exams & cleanings (2x yearly) because Dr. Calleros and her team of Dental Hygienists always checked and made sure I was doing everything required to keep my teeth in excellent condition. There were times when I didn't follow the advice of Dr Calleros until the day after an examination she gave me a stern warning about me letting my gums become inflamed due to improper daily brushing & flossing. "When I changed insurances, I needed to find a new dentist and found this place. I instantly thought it was a great place. I walked in for the first time and they gave me a tour around the place and was introduced to some of the staff.
Problems that I have encountered are the business hours, scheduling and billing. At first, they were closed every Friday, but not they're closed every other Friday/Monday. It can get pretty confusing and sometimes be an inconvenience. As far as the scheduling, you might want to make sure they schedule your cleanings correctly. They automatically schedule three times a year, but my insurance only covers twice a year and had to pay out of pocket. I thought they would go by my insurance, but I guess not so I had to correct that.
The last appointment I had to reschedule. I assumed they were going to reschedule the cleaning and dental work together because that's what I asked. They didn't reschedule it correctly and I had to go in again two weeks later. In addition to that, they sent a bill for the first appointment when they said I wasn't going to get charged. I asked to make sure because they want the payment the same day. When I went in two weeks later for the dental appointment, they admitted it was her mistake.
I have been coming here for about two and a half years I believe and like coming here because everyone is so friendly. They even remember little details about you. The only thing I don't like are the little mistakes that can be avoided. Otherwise, I would recommend coming here."

"Reviewing a dentist is a tough job. It's not like reviewing a restaurant where you can (nearly) always expect to have a great time, every time. A dentist sometimes has good news for you - and once and awhile you find out some information that you really don't want to hear.
I've been going to Dr. Calleros since she operated out of Redondo Beach in 1999. She started off with me by repairing and replacing some old dental work - a modest upfront investment - and now my teeth have been worry free for over ten years. The entire staff, including my all time favorite hygenist, are wonderful and caring. You get a really personal dental service with Dr. Calleros and her team.
Just today, I had my teeth cleaned, floride treatment, and a lazer treatment for $72 with insurance. The last two items were optional - there was so pressure to get them or not - I just like my teeth. :)
Note: Dr. C has recently moved to a really sweet location - possibly the nicest, cleanest, most modern dental office in the South Bay. Kudos!

By all accounts, Dr. Sandra Calleros’ new practice in El Segundo, Calif., is unlike any other. And the formula for building a practice as unique as Calleros Dental is remarkably simple: nine parts “wait” and one part “pounce.”
That doesn’t mean it was easy. Though she had long dreamed of a new practice, Dr. Calleros knew the space needed to be perfect. So she waited. And waited. And waited. She waited so deliberately that at times she grew frustrated and nearly settled on a space that merely sufficed. But she didn’t. She waited.
Then, when it came time to pounce, Dr. Calleros did. She pounced with everything she had and was practicing in her new facility barely three months after she signed the lease.
Dr. Calleros has always practiced by herself. She operated out of a few different offices but many of her 24 years practicing she’s been operating out of the 1,000-square-foot space she was in until 2011. The last few years there, though, were spent looking for her way out – both literally and figuratively.
“It was built in the ’50s,” Dr. Calleros said. “It had little cubicle rooms with one tiny doorway in and out for both the assistant and the doctor. It was stressful working in a place like that. There’s not even room to bend over. It just wasn’t fun practicing that way.”

“I was on day 2 of my cold sore I sent an email in the middle of the night the office called me 1st thing in the morning & scheduled me an afternoon appointment. I had a 15 min wait but hey I was happy they could see me at all. The Dr. did a laser procedure on my cold sore which lasted about 10 mins. It didn't hurt it just felt a little warm & a lot warm but not bad. I'm on day 4 my blisters are gone & have scabbed. Usually at day 4 I still have huge blisters that are very visible.
